JOB SUMMARY

 

The City of Wapakoneta is seeking a Clerk I.   Essential Functions of the Position:

– Processes billing and collection of tax records and returns (e.g., posts and prepares return, collects tax receipts, prepares subpoenas, prepares returns for mailing, etc.); receives payments from utility customers either in-person or by mail; assists with processing of payments (i.e., balances receipts against stub, prepares deposit for bank, etc.)

– Posts receipts and invoices; prepares journals

– Check for unusual readings on usage, runs and verifies trial reports; prepares and separates bills for mailing (bank bills, City bills, employee bills, etc.); takes bills to post office

– Directs inquiries from general public to appropriate personnel regarding taxes, rates, bills, etc.; registers and processes work orders for new customers and transfers; receives deposits

– Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance

EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:

Qualifications: necessary to perform duties (* indicates developed after employment)

Knowledge of: Department policies and procedures*; City tax law, rates and practices*; bookkeeping; office practices and procedures; billing procedures*; utilities rates*; legal procedures for collecting delinquent bills*

Skills in: Computer operation; data entry

Ability to: Calculate fractions, percentages and decimals; deal with problems involving several variables in familiar context; maintain accurate records; complete tax forms*; arrange items in numerical or alphabetical order; answer routine questions from general public; develop good rapport with officials, co-workers, and the general public; recognize unusual conditions and take appropriate action; perform the duties of Secretary

SALARY/BENEFITS

This position falls under the UWUA; Utility Workers Union of American. Pay is per the contact range: $15.43 – $16.21 per hour. Eligible for applicable city employee benefits.
