The Wapakoneta Fire & EMS is hiring for the position of Full-Time Firefighter II/Paramedic.

Salary Information: $55,285 starting, with 6 months satisfactory service increases to $60,880

Department Overview: Wapakoneta Fire & EMS is a single station operation with 24-hour staffing following a California swing rotation. We currently have 17 Career Firefighters supplemented by part time employees. All Full Time Personnel hold a Firefighter II Certification and EMT Certification of Paramedic within 36 months of hire. In 2022 the department responded to 2,290 incidents. Wapakoneta Fire & EMS provides all fire suppression and ALS ambulance services, fire prevention and education, confined space rescue, water and ice rescue, rope rescue, vehicle and machinery extrication and other emergency services as needed.

Necessary Certifications : Applicant must have a valid Ohio drivers license that is insurable. A high school diploma or GED is required. Will be required to possess or obtain Firefighter II and Paramedic Certifications.
Hiring Process :
- Complete and return the City of Wapakoneta job application.
- Take and pass NTN written test.
- Complete the PHQ (Personal History Questionnaire) on NTN site.
- Take and pass a physical ability test.
- Candidate must attend an oral interview.
- Chosen Candidate must pass a FBI/BCI background check.
- Chosen Candidate must take and pass a drug screen.
- Chosen Candidate must take and pass a physical.
- Chosen Candidate must submit to a driving record check.
Specific Disqualifiers/Behaviors : Felony, Criminal Activity Disqualifiers: A felony conviction will disqualify the applicant
Driving Disqualifiers: Must be able to maintain insurability
Drug Use Disqualifiers: Subject to entry level and random drug testing
Application Process : An applicant who meets all minimum requirements must submit a completed application for employment form (Found Below) to the City of Wapakoneta 701 Parlette Court Wapakoneta, Ohio 45895. After reviewing the results of the written examination provided by National Testing Network, the Civil Service Commission will compile eligible applicant names into an eligibility list. The 4 tested categories will each comprise 25% of total score. The eligibility list will be in effect for a period of up to twelve months.
Additional Credit : The Wapakoneta Civil Service Commission offers the following credits to a 70% or higher test score. Military Veteran, 20% (DD214 required) Ohio State Certified Paramedic, 15% (Valid State of Ohio Certification Card) Ohio State Certified Firefighter 2, 10% (Valid State of Ohio Certification Card)
Only one incentive will be added to a passing test score and proof of the credit being requested must be provided with the City of Wapakoneta Employment Application.
