JOB SUMMARY

The City of Wapakoneta is seeking a Meter Reader I to join our Electric Department team!

Essential Functions of the Position:

– Locates and visually reads meters and electric meters; checks meter numbers and logs and subtracts readings for billing purposes.

– Troubleshoots accounts for possible malfunctions such as broken meters, leaks, high/low consumptions, etc.; completes work orders to initiate maintenance and repair; reports signs of meter tampering; repairs and installs water meters.

– Maintains good public relations with customers’ explains high readings, investigates, and determines causes.

– Shuts off water service to customers in arrears for payment of bills; restores service as directed; shuts off or restores electric power service at the meter as directed for residential and small businesses.

– Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.

– Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.

EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:

Qualifications: necessary to perform duties (* indicates developed after employment)

Knowledge of: meter reading procedures*; public relations; meter functions and operational process; water plant operations*

Skills in: motor vehicle operation

Ability to: gain access to worksite; develop and maintain effective working relationship with associates, supervisors and general public; carry out detailed but basic written or oral instructions; read, copy and record figures accurately; operate a motor vehicle in a safe manner; maintain a valid State of Ohio vehicle operator’s license; evaluate meter operations, identify malfunctions and draw valid conclusions; repair and calibrate water meters; communicate effectively in both oral and written form; maintain accurate records; perform manual labor for extended periods of time under possible adverse conditions

Other:  High-school diploma required, must be 18 years of age and hold a valid State of Ohio motor vehicle operator’s license

This position falls under the UWUA; Utilities Workers Union of American and pay is per contract range. (Step 1 – $23.92/hour)
