WAPAKONETA'S VOLUNTARY CURBSIDE RECYCLING PROGRAM:

The curbside pickup program is not mandatory, but this document is intended to help residents who would like to participate to start recycling or to become better recyclers.

redboxThese items go in the red recycling bin:
    glass bottles and jars -clear, green and brown
    aluminum cans
    steel (tin) cans
    #1 plastic containers, ie; soda pop and water bottles
    #2, #3, #5, #7 plastic containers, ie; milk and detergent bottles

Look for the recycling symbol with the number pressed in the plastic material.

Rinse all food containers.
Remove caps and lids from glass and plastic and dispose as garbage.
Leave lids attached to food cans.

    newspapers
    magazines
    phone books
    catalogs
    office paper
    other mixed paper
    gift wrap (not metallic)
    flattened paperboard, ie; cereal, cracker, tissue boxes, paper towel and toilet paper rolls, other clean food boxes.

Corrugated cardboard boxes have fluting that you can see at the edges.  Flatten and leave them next to the bin.

Be sure to place your recycling bin, paper bags and corrugated cardboard at curbside with your garbage bag the night before your assigned garbage pickup day.  There are no "re-runs."  Set out garbage and recycling the night before.

Note: if your pickup falls on a city holiday, your garbage will be delayed until the next workday. Your recycling will be delayed until your next scheduled pickup day.

    used motor oil
    batteries
    plastic bags
    reusable shoes fastened together in pairs
    cell phones and chargers
    computers and computer components
    holiday lights working or not working
    liquid latex paint is now collected at Auglaize County's Monthly Collection in St Marys.  See below.

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS PRICING INFORMATION

April 1, 2017 through October 31, 2017
Monday through Friday 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM
NO COMMERCIAL BUSINESS, AUGLAIZE COUNTY RESIDENTS ONLY!

Accepted with no charge:

Household Batteries (AA, AAA, C, D) and Car Batteries
Non-Freon Appliances (Computers, Microwave, Vacuums, printers, etc.)

THE FOLLOWING CHARGE WILL BE ASSOCIATED WITH THE BELOW MATERIALS:

Paint - $1.00 per container up to one gallon, then each additional gallon is $1.00. We accept latex and oil based paints. Do NOT mix latex with oil based paints. If you have empty dried out containers we can accept those as well.

Appliances with Freon - $30.00 per appliance.

Chemicals, Herbicides, Cleaners, Pesticides - $1.00 charge per pound. We do not dump out any materials due to the potential hazards.

Mercury - $15.00 per pound. We will NOT remove the mercury to weigh it under any circumstances. There is a $15.00 minimum charge.

Lightbulbs (up to 8 feet) - $2.00 per bulb charge. Please do not break or crush bulbs before bringing them to our facility. If you have broken lightbulbs, they are charged $2.00 per pound.

Batteries - $1.00 per pound charge. Examples of these batteries include 12V, 6V, Drill Batteries, etc.

Televisions – $1.00 per inch. (If a 32” television, it will be $32.00) CRT Monitors - $5.00 per monitor

Tires (MUST BE OFF THE RIM): Passenger and Light Truck Tire = $3.00 charge
Large Truck and Agricultural Tires = $10.00 charge
Semi-Truck Tires (3 rib or 4 rib) = $10.00 charge
Tractor Tires (Lug Type) = $40.00 charge

Please remember all materials must be taken to this facility for disposal.

COMMUNITY COMPOSTING:

The City Farm, located at 16043 Wapakoneta Cridersville Road (click for map), is a compost facility for the disposal and composting of yard waste only.

Hours at the facility are Monday through Friday 9 am to 5 pm in season. Saturday 8 am to 2 in season. April through November.   Lunch Hour is 11:45 - 12:15 Monday through Friday.

compostPayment for the disposal of yard waste requires the pre-payment of a "yard card" which is available at the City Hall utilities office. 419-738-3011

The rates for disposal of brush, tree limbs, grindings, grass clippings, leaves, yard/garden waste and other acceptable materials are as follows:

  • Automobiles or van load (Blazer, Bronco, Suburban, for example) 3.00
  • Pick-up truck or "small" 2-wheel trailer 6.00
  • Dump truck or large trailer 15.00

Minimum fee of $3.00 allows the equivalent of two 30 gallon garbage bags, regardless of the type of vehicle used to haul it.

The rates for composted material which can be purchased at the City Farm:

  • One scoop from a 2 yard bucket 27.00
  • Garbage Can 3.00
  • Four 5-gallon buckets (minumum charge) 3.00

The City Farm is a compost facility for the disposal and composting of yard waste only. No paper, plastic or trash is to be deposited with yard waste materials. We cannot accept stumps or building materials.

Many Wapakoneta residents do backyard composting of kitchen and yard waste.  Their gardens are benefiting from the fresh compost, rain barrel water harvesting and other practices of  backyard sustainability.  Many interesting resources on this subject can be found online.

REFUSE IS EVERTHING ELSE AND MUST BE IN CITY OF WAPAKONETA GARBAGE BAGS (*Make sure bags are tied!)

The City of Wapakoneta encourages its residents to learn to be master recyclers.  The more you recycle, the fewer garbage bags you will consume.
