The City of Wapakoneta maintains several parks, sports facilities and playgrounds around the city.

Belcher Park

is located behind the downtown area along the river. A new boat ramp was built in 2002 to provide easier access to the Auglaize River. It is home to the Farmer's Market on Saturdays, 9am when in season.

Harmon Park

is across from the Wapakoneta Middle School, along the banks of the Auglaize River. The gazebo was dedicated in Spring 2004. It includes 4 tennis courts, 3 baseball fields, a playground, a wooded picnic area and the Wapakoneta Water Park outdoors swimming pool.

Riverwalk

is the paved path linking the historical downtown area to the YMCA. It runs along the north bank of the Auglaize River, then north, near City Hall, connecting to the sidewalk at St Joseph School.

Veteran's Memorial Park

provides picnic shelters, a 1-mile walking track and physical challenges, baseball fields, basketball courts, a playground and skateboard ramps.

Recreational opportunities in Wapakoneta and Auglaize County are varied. Grand Lake St. Marys State Park, a 15-minute drive to the west along US 33, is the state's largest man-made lake and is a premiere vacation spot. The state park offers camping, boating, sailing, water sports, fishing, hunting, picnicking and swimming. Nearby Indian Lake State Park and Lake Loramie State Park offer similar pursuits.

Fort Amanda
Fort Amanda

Fort Amanda is on the west bank of the Auglaize River 9 miles northwest of Wapakoneta along State Route 198. The fort served as a major supply depot during the War of 1812. Originally built in the fall of 1812 by Kentucky troops under the command of Lt. Col. Robert Pogue, the fort was enlarged to almost double the original size during the spring of 1813 by Ohio militia soldiers under the command of Capt. Daniel Hosbrook. A fifth blockhouse was added during the second phase of construction as well as several cabins and storage buildings. The walls stood 11 feet above the ground. The park offers picnic and walking areas and a monument to soldiers who served.

Neil Armstrong Air & Space Museum, named in honor of Neil Armstrong, Wapakoneta's most famous son and first man to set foot on the moon, this museum chronicles Ohio's contributions to the history of space flight.

The 40-mile Miami and Erie Trail is the first state recreational trail designated under the Ohio Trails Act. It runs from Delphos to Loramie Creek and passes through the western part of Auglaize County.

The Wapakoneta Family YMCA is a volunteer-driven, community service 501(c)3 organization that serves over 5,000 members and countless others in the community. The YMCA is for everyone, and offers financial assistance for membership and programs to those who are in need. Located at 1100 Defiance Street, the YMCA offers programs and services for youth, adults, and families. Programs include aquatics, child care, day camp, family, youth and adult sports, teens, older adults, arts and humanities, and health and wellness. Call (419)739-YMCA for more information.

Golf courses are found in Wapakoneta at the Wapakoneta Country Club, in Waynesfield at the Prairie View Golf Club, and in communities throughout the area, including Waynesfield, Minster, and in Celina and Lima. Bowling, volleyball and softball leagues offer organized recreation for adults.
